It’s been 12 years since Macklemore’s last solo album, but it won’t be long until fans can get a hold of his next collection of independently produced rap. He says the album is due out later this year.

With 12 years between solo projects, Macklemore needed a creative challenge to jumpstart the album process. He said, “I made a new song every day for a month. Regardless of how good it was, regardless of how horrible it was, it was just about getting into the studio, making art, not judging it, and starting again the next day and that really set me off on a good trajectory for this whole album.”

He ended up with more tracks than ever before, including the song ‘Glorious’ featuring Skylar Grey.  The song speaks to Macklemore’s journey to sobriety. Through the six years that he’s been sober, he’s lived this philosophy: “We’re here for a purpose and everyone has a different one. But we’re all born for our purpose. It’s how do you find that purpose and actualize it?”
