As iconic as Bob Marley remains, it’s a little surprising the reggae legend wasn’t the first member of his family to land a Top 10 hit.
His grandson, Skip, was the first Marley to reach that height when he was featured on Katy Perry’s woke-pop hit ‘Chained To The Rhythm’.
Skip Marley began studying music was he was just 6 years old, and sang for the first time when his Uncle Stephen put him on stage while on tour.
Now, Skip’s turning out a noticeably more pop-influenced version of the reggae music that established the family name. It’s his unique musical approach and message of unification and love that made Katy Perry insist he be a part of ‘Chained To The Rhythm’.
He’s continuing his mission with his latest track called ‘Calm Down’. Skip told Billboard, “Music is my weapon of choice. I hope ‘Calm Down’ makes us think of solutions and brings us together.”
