On Friday (November 18), swastikas were found spray painted in Brooklyn’s Adam Yauch Park, a park dedicated to the late Beastie Boys’ MC/bassist. Underneath the swastikas: a message that said, “Go Trump.” As of yesterday (November 19) the graffiti had been painted over, and the official Beastie Boys twitter account announced that there would be an anti-hate rally at the park today, saying “Hate has no place in Brooklyn, NYC, or America. Join us on Sunday to stand against hate messages.”

The event seemed well attended, with a number of attendees sharing images from the park (including noted Beastie Boys fan Ben Stiller). Many held signs quoting Yauch’s lyrics, including “Intergalactic” (“Well I got to keep it going, keep it going full steam, too sweet to be sour too nice to be mean, on the tough guy side I’m not too keen, try to change the world I will plot and scheme”) and “An Open Letter to NYC” (“Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten/From the Battery to the top of Manhattan/Asian, Middle-Eastern and Latin/Black, white, New York you make it happen!).
