"I just love Bowie, I think he’s the ultimate inventor," The Weeknd said.

Artists have found different ways to pay homage to the late David Bowie after he passed away suddenly in January, and The Weeknd gave a slight wink to the “Starman” when he named his new album Starboy.

Speaking with the Wall Street Journal in a new interview, The Weeknd revealed the inspiration behind his latest album’s title. “I just love Bowie, I think he’s the ultimate inventor,” he said. Bowie released the iconic song “Starman” in 1972 off his album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars.

The Weeknd added that Prince also had an inspiring hand in Starboy. Losing not one but two music legends–each known for their originality and artistry–in one year affected him as he headed into the studio. To make matters even more poignant, the last time Prince ever appeared on television was at the American Music Awards in 2015, when he presented The Weeknd with an award for Favorite Soul/R&B Album.
