Musicians have been finding different ways to honor those who lost their lives during the Orlando mass shooting on June 12. Janet Jackson shared a moving tribute to the victims today (June 14).
Jackson released an unofficial lyric video for her song “Shoulda Known Better.” The video intercuts footage of the different vigils taking place around the country with the photos and names of those who died.
To send home a political point, the video begins with footage of two mothers speaking with news outlets about the shooting and ends with President Obama discussing gun control during a PBS NewsHour segment. He shares how Americans who are known to visit ISIS-related websites can be placed on the No Fly List but can’t be barred from purchasing weapons in the country.
“Part of the revolution/ Ready for real solutions/ We won’t accept excuses/ We tolerate no abuses,” Jackson sings on the emotional song. In the tweet she used to share the video, Jackson wrote, “You’ll never be forgotten. #WeAreOrlando #Unbreakable.”
