Ever since receiving the golden buzzer for her striking, original performance on America’s Got Talent, Grace VanderWaal has become a household name thanks to her voice and her sheer guts.

Although she performed an original number on the competition show, she’s no stranger to covering other, more well known songs. In fact, she’s posted several videos to her YouTube channel showing off her range, whether that’s interpreting someone else’s music or sharing her own. Here are her top 3 covers.

“Back to Earth” by Jason Mraz

Mraz’s song actually begins with a ukulele and a whimsical vocal melody, which serves VanderWaal well in her cover. She doesn’t deviate too much from the original structure, but her unique–almost unbelievable–vocal timbre lends this cover a refreshing spin.

“Breathe Me” by Sia

Without the piano that begins this haunting song by Sia, it seems like VanderWaal’s cover would lose some of that impact. But thanks to the way she turns her ukulele into a mournful instrument and her quiet voice, she gets at the song’s heart in her own way.

“Dog Days Are Over” by Florence and the Machine

Florence Welch’s mature vocals are hard to cover. Let’s just put that out there. But 12-year-old VanderWaal finds her own way into the moving, anthemic “Dog Days Are Over.” Keeping her voice restrained on the verses allows her sophisticated tone to reach big when it comes time for the powerful chorus.
