Justin Bieber was out and about in LA yesterday and made time to book a pedicure with his mom.
He and rapper buddy Khalil sat in big chairs getting their toes done while his mom, Pattie Mallette, cheesed for the camera. It’s a positive development in a relationship that’s had its share of ups and downs as Justin navigates post-adolescence under the bright lights.
Last year, the pop star explained how years of debauchery took a toll on his relationship with his mother, which he described as “pretty nonexisting.”
“I was distant because I was ashamed,” he told Billboard. “I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was. We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust. She’s living in Hawaii now, so it’s hard, but getting better. She’s an amazing woman and I love her.”
One year earlier, Pattie told U.K. tabloid The Sun, “I think so many people go into the entertainment industry with amazing Christian roots and they go in with the right morals and they get influenced somehow… I ask that people keep me and Justin in their minds. I pray for him every day… If Justin’s struggling, don’t kick him when he’s down or condemn him–pray for him.”
Bieber and his mom are living proof that the key to mending fences is putting one (pedicured) foot in front of the other. And say “sorry,” a lot.
