Elton John and Vladimir Putin were unable to schedule a time to meet during the singer’s recent visit to Russia but both hope to reschedule a proper sit-down to discuss gay rights and LGBT issues at a later date.

A spokesman for the Russian president said there was  “no appropriate time in the two men’s schedules” for a planned meeting to take place, reported the BBC.

“We were in correspondence with him [Elton John] a couple of weeks ago, because there had been an agreement that if their schedules allow, this meeting would take place,” said Dmitry Peskov, Press Secretary for the President of Russia. “President Putin expressed readiness for this meeting. But this time, the meeting won’t take place, unfortunately. Their schedules do not match up. But this does not mean that such a meeting won’t take place next time.”

In September, John was pranked by someone pretending to be the Russian leader after the singer criticized a Russian law against gay propaganda. Putin got wind of the prank and called John to promise a meeting with the singer to discuss gay rights. While in concert this past weekend in Russia, John thanked the President for inviting him to discuss LGBT, HIV and AIDS issues at a later date.
