"I have nothing but love and appreciation for the fans in Atlanta."

By Hayden Wright

Lauryn Hill left fans disappointed when she appeared two hours late to a Friday concert in Atlanta and performed for fewer than 40 minutes. The venue observes a strict 11 p.m. curfew, so the show was cut short and fans demanded an explanation from Hill on social media. She responded to the confusion and frustration with a lengthy post explaining her artistic process and plans to “make it up” to those who were shortchanged.

“I don’t show up late to shows because I don’t care,” she wrote. “And I have nothing but love and respect for my fans. The challenge is aligning my energy with the time, taking something that isn’t easily classified or contained, and trying to make it available for others. I don’t have an on/off switch.”

While Hill chalks it up to her mercurial creative process, fan-made videos from the show indicate she blamed her driver for getting lost. Nevertheless, the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill mastermind vowed to repay fans, though it’s not clear how.

“I have nothing but love and appreciation for the fans in Atlanta, and regret not being able to give you a full show,” she said. “We are figuring out a plan to make it up to you, and will announce details as soon as we have them.”

After high-profile legal and financial struggles, Hill is gearing to make a comeback and reportedly has been back in the studio.
